looks like a bigger storm may be headed toward us this weekend. let's check in with wyatt. >> reporter: yeah. saturday's storm very interesting. this last storm sometime impacting us with the wind. high winds through the day. wind advisory canceled in the last hour. you can see the wind still up gusting to 23 to 25 miles an hour. again another windy night. wind chill factor cold as a result. look at the gusts, peak gusts 50 -- tree damage from that. this storm continues to move away to the north. winds will diminish in a new storm. coming in from texas. the impact that has the timing it's coming up. >> breaking news in the case of a missing baltimore county teen. her picture spread like wildfire on social media. now her 23-year-old boyfriend has been arrested and she is home with her family.

>> reporter: she was supposed to do last minute christmas shopping a friend on saturday but when she didn't come home her family sounded the alarm and today as we sat down with her mom the phone rang with the news they have been waiting for. >> i just want her here. >> reporter: the grief built up over the course of five-days is to much for christy fleming to hold in. with one phone call her nightmare is over. >> my god! >> reporter: the news and the emotions are overwhelming for fleming who has spent the better part of this holiday week sleepless wondering what happened to her teen daughter. she was reported missing three days before christmas. as we talked about the senior detectives called to say they found her. >> my heart stopped. i couldn't believe it. >> almost didn't seem real. >> reporter: police confirm she was located thursday morning safe and sound at her

boyfriend's apartment in white marsh. the 17-year-old herrance made public by the national center for missing and exploited children had gone viral with facebook posting showing her picture asking for help finding her. her family was thinking the worst. >> i did. i did. i mean you go everywhere. you don't know what to do. everything goes through your mind because you just don't know. >> reporter: now fleming knows for sure after hearing her voice in a phone call that came moments after that call. >> we missed you so much. we were so worried. >> reporter: a mother's concern now washed away as she waits for her daughter's return. the unanswered questions about where she has been put on the back burner. first thing you will do? >> hug her. hug her. i can't wait to see her. >> reporter: police say she was not in any danger. detectives say they interviewed her boyfriend. he said she wasn't there and

that she was picked up christmas day by an unknown william. what detectives returned today she was in the house. her boyfriend will be charged with making false statements. >> a man was beaten on christmas night and he and his family say it's because he was gay. seventh shaw say he ran down to the store. he said he was attacked by five men from the neighborhood. he said she punched him in the face. he and his mother believe it was because he is gay. today they spoke out in the hopes of solve the case and standing up against what they say is discrimination. >> i think you have to get to anoint life that you just can't be afraid anymore. this is -- this is our stand. this was my son. i know i will lay down my life for my son. >> reporter: shaw is healing from that beating. baltimore city police didn't comment on the story today but say they are looking in to the

possibility this indeed was a hate crime. in our consumer alert a walk out threatens at midnight as long shore men and the port of baltimore can make a deal on a new contract. the port is one of the main economic generators in maryland. the two sides are supposed to sit down saturday to end the standoff. the main issues, royalties. . >> and it's unfortunate that we have gotten to this point. this has been known for months. again, when work interruptions happen nobody wins. >> it's not just the port of baltimore that's affected here. 15 ports with 15,000 worker also be impacted from maine down to texas. the senate is back hoping to find a compromise to avoid the fiscal cliff. the house is still on a break leaving some to wonder if there

is time to strike a deal or if the economy is doomed to go over the edge when the clock hits midnight. >> reporter: hundreds of waterford crystals in installed on the ball in new york's time square. the countdown to the new year is underway. in washington there is a much more ominous count down underway. five days and counting until the united states economy goes over the fiscal cliff if something isn't done. >> american people are waiting for the ball to drop but it's not going to be a good drop. >> reporter: with no deal taxes will go up and spending will be slashed. some warn the impact could spark another recession. with the deadline approaching the president returned to the white house and the united states senate is back in session. the house will reconvene by sunday evening. >> there is still time and it depends on how complicated the fiction it. >> reporter: the sticking point continues to be taxes. democrats want to extend the

tax cuts to everybody but those americans making $250,000 or more a year. republicans remain against any tax increases. the debate is park sparking a high stakes match. >> the speaker cares more about his speaker ship than helping the nation. >> nobody is willing to pull the trigger. everybody wants to play the blame game. it's about to put us over the edge. >> reporter: and that's just where the economy may go. some say a situation could be allowing tax increases to tack effect on january 1st and then on the third when the new congress is sworn in, lawmakers can vote to cut taxes. >> the new year brings another deadline for homeowners. december 3rd 1 the last day toa play for the homestead tax credit. the credit is supposed to put a limit on an increase in property taxes if the home's assessment value jumps but it's only supposed to go for a

primary residence. its going into effect to eliminate the credit for people who shouldn't be getting it. >> we have plenty ofen eligible properties getting credits they aren't entitled to. in 2007 the general assembly passed another bill requiring a one time application. >> the law was passed in 2007 but it's going into effect now after a five year grace period. if you are eligible you should have received two notices already but there is still time to fill out the application. now if you just log onto the website, click on the homestead tax credit story in the featured story section. there we have a link to the state site where you can find out if you need to file that application. despite the crowds you saw in the stores, this was a dispoint pointing year for holiday shopping. sales were at the weakest since 2008 when the country was right in the middle of a deep recession. now retailers depending on the final week to ship savor the

shopping season, offering huge steep discounts to clear out unsold items to try to help boost sales. , police are trying to track down a man wanted for credit card fraud. a credit card was stolen from the victim's wallet out of a car. police are trying to identity the suspect. this is the man they believe is responsible for the crime. he was captured on surveillance cameras hughes the card. if you have information on the suspect or theft are you urged to call the crime stoppers hotline. and if you wake up at three in the morning and feel like hitting the casino now you can. maryland live is open 24-7. the doors were unlocked this morning at eight and it said they will never, ever close again. they believe staying open around the clock and adding table games will help it be a more competitive casino. >> i think the addition of both 24 hours and table games kind of brings the completion as far as allowing maryland to

complete with west virginia, pennsylvania and delaware. right now west virginia and delaware get a substantial portion of their revenue from maryland residents leaving the state. keeping that money here and enjoying those dollars here will benefit the state of maryland through taxes. >> the casino doesn't have a solid day for when it'll add table games but they say they should be up and running around early spring. 2012 is almost over so we are looking back. the outstanding student athletes who caught our attention this year. and tax season will be here before you know it. what you need to know before you hire a tax professional. >> and on the weather front 42 degrees. you know the normal in late december 43. big storm blowing outs to the north and east but the next one starting to head our way. when it gets here and impacts for maryland.

for work. >> having a cpa do my taxes has saved me hours in time and probably thousands of dollars in taxes. >> reporter: you want to find someone you trust and develop a long lasting relationship. that way they will know your finances and can help you if you have missed deductions. >> folks should set up an appointment as soon as anything financial changes. it's never to late to educate yourself. any time is the best time to schedule an appointment. need to make sure you have the right documentation before you take a deduction. never estimate or guess based on last year or prior year numbers. specifically for 2012, make sure that if you are issuing a 1099 or receiving one, that you do it correctly. the irs is really cracking down on them. you never know when you will be selected for audit so make sure

the documentation you have is what you would be able to explain to the irs agent. >> you should know that your tax attorney or your cpa will take care of you in case of audit. >> it was an expence -- i went ahead and took the leap, hired a cpa, gave them the paperwork and it was such a relief at first. i thought this is nice, i'm willing to pay someone. then i realized it was an investment because she found things i hadn't noticed. she told me that i would never have to deal with the irs, that was her job in the case of getting audited she would be the gun going in and asking me for what she needed to help get through. >> abc 2news. >> of us hate the idea of hiring something to do something we think we can do just as well but when it comes to taxes the laws change and it's hard for anyone but a tax professional to try to keep up.

more on that in a second. wind from the northwest 15 to 20. still gusting close to 30. so, as i have been saying earlier, you have to put out the trash and recycling, maybe wait until just before bed. wind chill now heading out to dinner. dress warm for that. feeling like just the 20s. here is the set up now. we are clear, the storm from earlier, blowing out to the north and east. things get better in to the day tomorrow. here is what all the hubbub is about. temperatures, close to 40. that will help melt what snow is left. places like carrol; watch saturday. number one temperatures won't move much off the morning lows. 33 for a high. on saturday, very close to that freezing mark. that will support winter weather as this new area precipitation comes in. new storm system. one storm out. we are watching for the next one. windy conditions for a few more hours this evening and then the winds relax. the next storm begins to brew through the day showing up over the gulf coast states and then

it'll make its move in to the midatlantic and through the early morning hours to about the early afternoon saturday. 6:00 a.m. to two. that's where the storm will impact us. how far south will it track? that will change our potential snow totals. talk about those possibilities. track one would bring it further north. we may get rain mixing in but could get up to four inches, that high total. if it stays further south that will change the game. that means it stays further off shore. colder air dominates, white snow but all snow. one to two inch situation on the high, a three to four inch situation. it's still hard to say where the rain to snow line sets up. here is the early look. five saturday, snow starts to the west. peaking around ten saturday morning and the rain snow line pretty far south. this will he a quick mover.
